Zambia commemorates inaugural MSME Day

The 27th June, 2023 has been officially recognized by the United Nations as World MSME Day. This is a day that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises around the world are appreciated due to their contributions to national economics in terms of employment and income generation.

It was for this reason that Zambia joined the rest of the world in commemorating this important day of MSMEs.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises , Honorable Elias Mubanga MP expressed his delight at finally having a day that was set aside to celebrate MSMEs. Mr. Mubanga emphasized the importance that government placed on MSMEs and pledged its continued support towards the sub sector.

During the same occasion, the Minister called upon agencies such as Zambia Credit Guarantee Scheme, the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission as well as others to implement the government’s objective of improving access to finance for MSMEs.

Speaking at the same event, ZCGS Chief Executive Officer, Mary Mumba thanked the event organizers and pledged the scheme’s continued support to MSMEs thereby contributing to economic development as envisaged in the Eighth National Development Plan.

The event was organized by the Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade which is an international organization that advocates for the growth of MSMEs
